Some might say that Nissan's revival of the Datsun brand is being done for all the wrong reasons. There's no successor to the famous 240Z or any other kind of cult car. But, Datsun has received a lot of attention in the Emerging markets where it will be launched, particularly in Indonezia.
On September 17th, the Datsun Go+ was revealed at the 2013 Indonesian International Motor Show. It's a small MPV for emerging markets that Nissan will put into production as part of a large investment. It's got a 5+2 layout and is expected to cost from less than €6,500 or $8,700.
Yesteaday, Datsun India released brand new information about the car, including specs regarding dimensions and output. Most notably, the GO+ is really small, smaller even than some European superminis.
Exact dimensions for the GO+ are 3,995mm length, 1,635mm width, 1,500mm height and a wheelbase of 2,450mm. The wheelbase is exactly the same as the Nissan Micra's while the overall length is 215mm more. So, is this just another Micra with a different badge? Well, no, not really. Because most of the features have been removed, the budget car weighs only 794 kilograms, which is over 100 kg less than the Micra, despite being bigger in exterior proportions.
Power for the Go+ will come from just one engine choice, a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder petrol. The only transmission option will be a 5-speed manual. The braking system uses drums for the back, while the wheels are 13-inch small and are wrapped in 155mm section tires.
Paint options will include Reddish Gold, White Solid, Silver Metallic, Grey Metallic and Black Solid.
