New Chassis for Webber at Silverstone

Mark Webber may have escaped unhurt from his horrible backflip crash in last weekend's European Grand Prix, but his chassis was damaged beyond repair (obviously) and the Australian will have to use a brand new one starting the upcoming British Grand Prix.

After his RB6 touched the rear side of Heikki Kovalainen's Lotus T127, it went airborne, performed a backwards somersault, went through an advertising hoarding while still in the air, then flipped back to normal and crashed into the tire barriers. Needless to say, when it finally stopped, all that was left of the car was the cockpit.

Following the crash, Webber paid a tribute to his “deceased” chassis, as it brought him no less than 4 pole positions and 2 race wins, along with several other podium positions. “It's been good to me. It was very safe, thank God,” Webber told the media after his medical check on Sunday.

I lost some points, but in the end when you're up there (in the air), you're not worried about points, I was worried that I was ok and ready for Silverstone. The chassis has been good to me, and it has been good to me (in Valencia) as it saved me from some injures,” added the Aussie.

According to BBC's pitlane reporter Ted Kravitz, it seems that Red Bull Racing has already started working on a brand new chassis for Webber, in order to have it up and ready for the race at Silverstone. The chassis will be built entirely at the team's factory in Milton Keynes, UK.

Whether the new RB6 will continue the legacy of the old winning one, we're yet to find out. All we know is that the 33-year old driver is pumped up to return to his winning ways in Great Britain, where he scored his first pole position of career last season and ultimately drove to a runner-up spot, behind teammate Sebastian Vettel (first 1-2 finish in the history of Red Bull).

I remain incredibly positive, we go on, it's half way through the championship. Bloody hell, let's get on with it,” added Webber.
