New Caterham Sportscar Details Emerge

New details about Caterham's upcoming joint-venture sportscar with Renault have been unveiled. Scheduled to go on sale next year, Caterham's version of the Renault Alpine will have a price tag of about £35,000, Autocar reveals.

The unnamed vehicle is said to be aimed at the premium sportscar market and share up to 70 percent of the parts that will go into the Renault Alpine. Moreover, it seems that Caterham's engineers are looking to fit the sportscar with turbocharged 1.6 and 1.8-liter engine instead of the 2.0-liter design used by Renault. The British company is also exploring the possibility of adding a KERS system.

"If we do a good car, people will recognise it — and I’m confident that they’re going to. In a lot of parts of the world, Caterham isn’t that well known, and therefore we’re free to define the brand", said Caterham Technologies CEO Mike Gascoyne.

Caterham is hoping to sell 3,000 units per year, mostly in the Asian market.
