How un-American is for Cadillac to present its next bestseller model roughly 2,332 miles away from the manufacturer's stomping ground? In a nutshell, very, but fret not – after its world debut on November 10 at the Dubai Motor Show, the 2017 Cadillac XT5 will stop by the Los Angeles Auto Show on November 20.
The American outfit is going to release official photographs and details "in the coming days" according to AutoBlog, but we already know what's what. The first undisguised pictures of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 appeared on the Internet in June, showcasing the exterior design of the crossover.
Set to replace the mid-size Cadillac SRX, the XT5 has considerable weight on its shoulders. The 12-year-old SRX is still the best-selling Cadillac nameplate despite its seniority, but we have this gut feeling that the 2017 Cadillac XT5 will do just fine. In terms of perception, there's nothing to go wrong here because Cadillac made sure that everything is a-OK from the get-go.
The CT6 luxury sedan-inspired headlights blend nicely with the prominent front grille while the elegant side profile makes a great team with the straightforward design of the rear end. The visual changes will be even more dramatic inside, with Cadillac promising more luxury and technology than ever before.
Rumored to start production in Spring Hill, Tennessee, at the beginning of 2016, the all-new Cadillac XT5 ditches the SRX's 3.6-liter naturally aspirated LFX V6 engine for the modern LGX V6. This motor packs 335 horsepower and 284 lb-ft (385 Nm) of get-up-and-go on the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro and Cadillac CT6. Mated to the GM Hydra-Matic 8L45 8-speed automatic transmission, all these mechanical bits and bobs will be integrated within the similarly all-new GM C1XX vehicle platform, internally known as the Chi.
Thanks to the added standard features, pricing will go up a little compared to the 2016 Cadillac SRX, with a projected MSRP for the front-wheel drive variant of the 2017 Cadillac XT5 of around $39,995. A 2-liter four-pot turbo with 275 horsepower and a healthy 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) is expected to be offered as the base engine choice. On an ending note, a little birdy says that a Cadillac XT5 Vsport will happen as well.
