It's not peculiar for big car manufacturers to test their future cars alongside current versions of those models or benchmark them against cars from other manufacturer.
A few days ago we showed you the upcoming Mercedes-Benz AMG GT (C190) being benchmarked against a Porsche 911 Turbo S (991), but now it's time to take another look at a lone C 63 AMG (W205) that is currently cold weather testing in Scandinavia.

Caught here not in a herd of other pre-production prototypes but alongside a current Mercedes-Benz C 63 AMG (W204) for reasons that are still unknown or speculative, the upcoming C 63 AMG (W205) is obviously longer and much wider than the old model.

Just like on the older car, the wider track compared with a regular C-Class W205 is also visible, with the different front and rear rims appearing to sport wider tires than the universally-dreaded 255/35 from the current C 63 AMG. We are expecting it to feature 275/35 R19 rear tires in standard and we sincerely hope we are not wrong, as the new model will have much higher torque figures than the already torquey W204 model.

Speaking of torque, as some of you already know the upcoming C 63 AMG W205 will be powered by an all-new four-liter V8 powerplant, designed in-house by Mercedes-AMG.

Based on two M133 engines from the A, CLA and GLA 45 AMG bonded together to form a twin-turbocharged V8, the new M177/M178 powerhouse is expected to offer no less than 476 hp and 650+ Nm (479+ lb ft) of torque and a fuel consumption at least 30 percent lower than the current M156.

Expect more details about the model in the upcoming months and even weeks, if the report about the AMG GT (C190) launch turns out to be true, as that would mean that we'll find quite a lot of details about the new AMG engine much sooner than expected.
