New BRABUS G850 Is a G63 AMG as Nature Intended It to Be

Don't laugh, but we really think the Mercedes-AMG G63 lacks power. Just hear us out. Yes, it's got 571 hp and 760 Nm (560 lb-ft) from as low as 1,750 rpm, but that's not nearly enough.

And why is that, you might ask, when the car isn't really fit to handle what it's got and is as steady as a battlecruiser under acceleration and braking? Well, there's your answer: if it's already got more than it can handle, why not go even higher?

You see, the Mercedes-AMG G63 is a ridiculous car. It's absurd, and that's why people like it. It's an off-roader by excellence transformed into something that does naught to sixty in 5.3 seconds, while all this time it's looking like a brick on stilts. But if its absurdity could be taken even further? Wouldn't that be worth it? We believe there are thousands of people - especially in the Middle East - who would promptly answer that question with a hearty "yes."

Lucky for them, there's BRABUS. The place where AMG cars go to be turned into gods has just released the specs for its latest creation, the G850 beast based on the G63 AMG. As the name suggests, the new SUV comes with 850 horsepower, but its maximum torque figure has also been pumped - all the way to 1,450 Nm (1,070 lb-ft), in fact. And if that sounds impressive, you should know the value is electronically limited, seemingly to protect the transmission.

The 5.5-liter V8 engine has had its displacement increased to 5,912 cc, and two BRABUS custom turbochargers installed to help with the nearly 300 extra horsepower gained. A larger air intake with a sports filter and a BRABUS sports exhaust system complete the scenery while also giving it a rather nice soundtrack.

On the outside, the G63 received a BRABUS WIDESTAR package with all the usual paraphernalia: modified spoilers, bumpers, side skirts, wheels, and hood, all made to look more aggressive, more ridiculous, more suitable to a car like the G63 AMG. If there's one thing we're not entirely convinced with it's the wheels, which seem to be perforated to hold the visual weight of the car. Plus, the exposed Brembo brakes look a bit too small, like one of those body builders who skipped leg day way too often.

Of course, the information about pricing and performance is left to our own imagination, and it's probably better this way. We'd hate to have to end this with the realization that most of us will never afford such a vehicle, especially since we've concluded it's utterly useless, so it needs to be at least a second, if not third car. Even though in most real cases we're talking double digits.
