New Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner Taking Off Vertically Is Amazing

We’ve seen most of the sportscars in the top of the line racing on an airport runway, and there always was something special to it. The race track has its own fair share of throttle madness, but there’s something about the power only an aircraft has. That’s why you remain speechless when you see a $250 million airliner lifting off almost vertically.

The Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner you see in the video below soared above Washington state the other week. The video offers a first look at the demonstration Boeing is scheduled to fly starting June 15 through June 18 at the 2015 Paris Air Show. Since we’re not going to be there, we figured we might as well enjoy the delight of this three-minute teaser along you guys.

Before we grab the popcorn and sit back, however, let us take a closer look at this beautiful piece of machinery.

One of the American airliner manufacturer’s latest creation, this big boy is the second member of the 787 family. We’re talking about super-efficient airplanes with new passenger-pleasing features. With the fuselage stretched 20 feet (meters) over the 787-8, this aircraft can fly more passengers and more cargo farther yet with the same environmental efficiency -20 percent less fuel use and emissions than the previous models.

As we said, the Dreamliner in question may cost a quarter of a billion dollars, but it comes with some impressive numbers. Think of it this way, it's capable of carrying 280 passengers more than 8,000 miles with one refuel.

According to the company, through May 2015, there are already 30 customers from around the world who have ordered 509 of these puppies, which is 46 percent of all 787 orders. These numbers speak for themselves.
