We already know that Toyota and BMW recently signed a deal to share fuel cell, lightweight technology and sportscar tech in the coming years. However, we didn't expect such a move from the Bavarian manufacturer.
There's no doubt about it, both the GT86 and Supra are great cars, and the new Toyota vehicle will surely be no disappointment, but what are the guys over at BMW trying to do by collaborating with the Japanese on such an important car?

MotorTrend reported that the new Z4 will share a beefed up version of the current F86 platform (the same as the Subaru BRZ's and Scion FR-S'). The F86 has recently received a great number of positive reviews. The most important fact about this car is that it is alive, it's dynamic and really fun. Those are characteristics that really should define the new Z4, but it's also in a class below any BMW in terms of badge prestige and quality.

All-new engines will be available for the Z4. It seems that BMW is currently testing a new V6 they built, a hybrid that will deliver around 400 HP (that's from a 2.5-liter engine).

In return for the GT86 platform, BMW will help out with Supra's suspension and handling. The next Z4 is rumored to make its appearance in 2015-2016, while the Supra will come around 2017, which will give the Japanese manufacturer enough time to create something unique.
