We're sure that in 2039, a VW Golf will cost a quarter-million euros and this article will sound funny. But BMW just launched the new X6 on its German website, and we just can't deal with these prices.
Sure the X6 is probably the most desirable BMW model and the original Sports Activity Coupe, but that doesn't mean they need to take an arm and a leg. The current range starts from €76,000 for the xDrive30d, which is perfectly adequate. It gets good mileage, hasn't got too many turbos and might be more reliable. But if you want a bit of performance, and you honestly do, the X6 M50i will set you back €99,600.

Granted, you're getting a lot of performance, thanks to the 530 horsepower 4.4-liter V8 that's also found in the M850i. That's a lot more power than the old V8, getting you to 100 km/h in a sports car-like 4.3 seconds. For €2,600 less, you could also have the X6 M50d, which only has a 400 HP from a 3-liter diesel with quad turbochargers.

So what else can you get for the money?

When we hear "€100,000 SUV," two nameplates come to mind. One is the recently launched Audi SQ8, which we recently established to be slightly more expensive. It's also one of those sexy coupe-like luxury 4x4, the main difference being that it's powered by a 4-liter diesel with 435 HP.

Another option would be a €99,657 Porsche Cayenne S Coupe. Funny how all these fancy-pants SUVs cost about the same. Of course, the options cause an even bigger headache. We suspect many X6 M50i buyers will want the €4,600 laser light package or the "Exclusive Package" that gets you the crystal shifter. And why isn't a heated steering wheel standard? But the good news is a glow-in-the-dark kidney grille is cheap at just €500.
