New BMW Supercar Rendering: BMW MZ8

Lately we've been seeing a lot of renderings of how a new supercar from BMW might look like, since the Bavarian company turns 100 in 2017 and most Bimmerheads expect their favorite company to release a new model to celebrate its centenary.

This new model would have to be something special, something almost unique and something that would scream performance, driving pleasure and exclusivity. We've already seen some attempts from people outside BMW, like the M8 and the M9.

This time, we're looking at a creation made by Jourd'hui Cristophe in collaboration with Benjamin Baron. Cristophe had the opportunity to take up an internship at BMW Design and, as a degree project, he decided to celebrate 40 years of M Division performance with a rather radical new concept car.

He calls it the MZ8 and its a tribute to the Z8 and 8 Series, two of the most beloved cars ever to come out of the BMW assembly lines. Even though the Z8 was sold in only 555 units, it's still an iconic Bimmer, alongside the 8 Series which, unfortunately, was never picked up again, after being discontinued in 1999.

Unlike the previous renderings, based on the M1, this one is a blend of M performance design, the Z8's Roadster stance and 8 Series' attractive, down-low sleek shape. Looking at this new creation, you know it's a BMW right away. It has the front kidney grilles, the badge right on top of them and even the headlights look strangely similar. However, the Hofmeister kink is missing but that could be overlooked, since the i3, BMW's own creation, seems to be coming to production without the legendary feature.

The new MZ8 would be powered by an upgraded version of the S63 engine found on the M5 and M6 but taken up to 600 HP. That wouldn't be a problem since some people already claim that this engine has more power than BMW advertises. The main issue will not be the output of the bi-turbo unit, it will be keeping the weight down, in order to achieve supercar performance.

That's where the new technologies, discovered during research done for the i3 and i8, might step in, as is rumored to be the case with the new G11 7 Series. Things like Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer and super light alloys might come in handy for a new supercar from BMW after the legendary M1.
