These days, the popularity of performance arms such as BMW M is higher than ever, with this meaning more and more special editions. And the time has now come to talk about an upcoming BMW M8 derivative.
You see, a BMW M8 Coupe test car was spotted doing its thing on the Nurburgring earlier this week. And there's one element that sets this Bavarian toy apart, namely its fixed rear wing.

Sure, the said aero element isn't as large as the wing on the back of the BMW M8 GTE racecar, but it's still counts a generously-sized unit for a street car.

Speaking of which, the number plates of the machine, along with the fact that the said M8 GTE is on its way out (BMW is retiring from endurance racing) are clues towards the fact that we're dealing with a road-going special here.

As for the M8 GTS moniker, this is tentative and obviously borrowed from the majestic M4 GTS. So we'll have to wait and see how the badges on the upcoming special actually look like.

Of course, such a model should involve some form weight reduction. And since the BMW M8 sits close to two tons, such a diet will come in handy.

There are also aficionados suggesting the GT4 badge for the upcoming M8 we have here - for one thing, nuerburgring_impressionen, the label who delivered the spyshots in the post below, seems to be in this camp. However, with BMW already using this label for its M4 GT4 customer racecar, this possibility doesn't seem likely.

As far as the time frame is concerned, since the Competition incarnation of the M8 is already among us, we might just see the special edition that brought us here making its late debut next year. Meanwhile, make sure to use the swipe feature of the post below to enjoy multiple angles.
