New BMW M5 Nurburgring Taxi Officially Revealed

BMW fans were all sadned by the announcement made last year that the old M5 would be put to pasture and will no longer serve as a ‘Ring taxi. Fortunately, its job was recently taken up by an M3, and now the new M5 has picked up the mantle and the responsibility of the old one.

BMW has officially unveiled the new M5 Nurburgring taxi covered in some very nice brand-specific livery at the M Festival in Germany, and BMW Blog scooped up some nice pictures. Despite looking like a factory tuning job, the M5 is actually as stock as can be, so you really can get the feeling of what it would be like to have your very own example.

The “world’s fastest taxi ride” will allow enthusiasts to take a seat next to a professional driver for a lap around the nearly 13-mile Nordschleife track. Unfortunately, the official company statement suggest the ride will only be available next year, so for now you’ll have to make due with the E92 M3.

However, it might just be worth the wait of you want to be shown around the grueling track in a 560 hp performance saloon. The extra 53 horsepower over the previous generation comes from a 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 that’s mated to a seven-speed double-clutch transmission, enabling the 2012 M5 to accelerate 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.4 seconds, 0-200 km/h (124 mph) in 13.0 seconds and hit a top speed of 305 km/h (190 mph).
