Next year should bring us the all-new incarnation of the BMW M3, with prototypes having been spotted doing their thing for quite a while. However, the Internet is always impatient. And what does the world wide web do in such situations? It comes up with renderings, of course.
However, it's not a 2021 M3 render that brought us here. Instead, the time has come to think of other derivatives that could ride on this platform - the new 3 Series, which is currently topped by the M340i, sits on the CLAR architecture, which now serves most of the Bavarian automaker's models.
To be more precise, the pixel play we have here portrays a potential BMW M4 Gran Coupe.
The idea behind this is brilliant, since the mix of practicality and styling brought by the 4 GC is brilliant and the muscle of the M Division would only make things better.
Speaking of which, the next M3 and M4 will use the twin-turbo 3.0-liter straight-six that debuted on the new X3 M and X4 M. Once again, the unit will be offered with two outputs, delivering 480 hp on the "standard" model and 510 hp for the Competition.
The M3 could follow the M5 down the AWD path and if this happens, we'll probably get a RWD mode for the M xDrive system once again.
In the transmission department, one will get to choose between a six-speed manual and a dual-clutch transmission.
Returning to this render, the pixel work is far from perfect. For one thing, the machine ended up more like the defunct 3 Series Gran Turismo (given the hunchy looks of the 3GT, not too many folks are complaining about its demise).
Then we have those tailillights, which might pack an original design, but one that doesn't seem to fit the brand.
