New BMW M SUVs Show Off-Roading Capabilities in First Video

Now that we know all there is to know about the new BMW X5 M and X6 M, it’s time to listen to them and see them roll in their first video. Technically speaking, they were shown for the first time in a teaser published by BMW earlier this week, where the cars were seen teasing the hell out of some poor paparazzi. However, back then we only got to see their faces. Now, we’re looking at the whole picture.

There’s also a little story to this video, unlike some others we’ve seen before. As it turns out, it follows the initial one with the paparazzi, only this time the cars step out of the shadows and basically terrorize them with their engines.

With 575 HP and 750 Nm (553 lb-ft) of torque, it’s plain obvious to see how they can do that, even though the weight of such an SUV reaches up into the 2.3-ton margin. It’s not that big of a deal when you have the xDrive system under the skin. That’s to the all-wheel drive capabilities the cars will do 100 km/h (62 mph) in 4.2 seconds, all drama free.

That’s also the reason why we’re guessing these beauties were taken off-road in this video. Let’s face it, nobody will get them in any kind of situation where mud will be involved. If they do, it will probably be to test them, not necessarily out of a dire need. The AWD system was introduced to handle the torque, not get you out of a sticky situation.

That doesn’t mean they won’t handle themselves if such situations arise. It’s better to know that they are RWD-biased though, just in case.

Pricing for the X5 M starts at $99,650 in the US while the less-practical coupe-like model, the X6 M will have a starting price of $103,050. Until you get to see them on your driveway, check them out at the Los Angeles Auto Show, where they will be making their world debuts.
