New BMW F15 X5 Caught Testing on Public Roads in China

The 7 year old BMW E70 X5 (yes, it is 7 years old even though it received a slight facelift) is about to enter its last months of production. The replacement,  called F15, is already being tested and in 2014 we'll be seeing it on the roads in Europe, the US and China.

We already showed you how the new X5 will look like and even the X5M but today we're showing you the car on public roads not on the Nurburgring track or at the BMW testing facility in Sweden.

Today we're looking at a set of photos from China. As we all know, Chinese people have a tendency to do things a little differently. They are not afraid of copyright problems or that the people might notice that the car driving next to them is a prototype, oh no, in China prototypes are tested on the open road.

That's actually fortunate for us as we get to see and try to make out some new details of the future BMW SAV. However the photos don't show anything new, just the car being driven on public roads. We'll have to make the best of any new picture until the official model will be unveiled in order to keep our curiosity in check.

The new F15 X5 will be lighter whilst at the same time bigger than the current E70 in order to make the differences between it and the X3 more obvious since the latter grew in size and is now almost as big as the first X5, the E53 version. That will be achieved through thorough usage of CFRP and aluminum in order to keep the CO2 emission levels in control and reduce the fuel consumption while also allowing the introduction of the first 4-cylinder engine on the SAV.
