We should be months away from the debut of the second-generation BMW 4 Series range. Not only should we get fresh incarnations of the Coupe, Cabriolet and Gran Coupe, but the latter is set to get an all-electric sibling, the i4. The Bavarians have already previewed the first via the Concept 4 introduced last year, while the Concept i4 that came earlier this year dropped plenty of hints on the said pair of four-door models. Well, the time has come to get closer to the new 4 Series Gran Coupe with the help of a rendering.
This pixel work comes from an independent label dubbed zer.o.wt, with this being based in Munich. Nevertheless, this builds on the i4 show car, so it appears to be pretty accurate.
For the record, BMW stated that the said concept is 85 percent close to the production model, while also mentioning the silhouettes of the EV and the internal combustion models are pretty much the same.
As such, this rendering adds the kind of visual details seen on the German automotive producer's showroom models. As both concepts and multiple leaks expected to portray the 4 Series Coupe have shown, the super-sized kidney grilles are here to stay.
Given the fact that the new 4er is built on the Cluster Architecture (CLAR) architecture serving the 3 Series, we partially know what to expect from the engine range (more details on the 3er engine lineup can be found here). However, we must also take into account that BMW plans to remove up to 50 percent of its "traditional drivetrain variants" starting from next year, in a bid to cut emissions.
The strategy, which was announced last month, also mentions that hybridized and electric models will flourish "in the years after 2022", so it remains to be seen how this powertrain revamp affects the new 4 Series range.
PS: There's always the possibility of the said restructuring seeing the i4 replacing the 4 Series GC altogether, but it's still too early to reach a conclusion.
