New Audi A7 Coming With Gentex Smartbeam

US-based automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and camera-based driver-assist systems manufacturer Gentex today announced that its SmartBeam high-beam assist system is now available on the new Audi A7 five-door coupe.

SmartBeam uses a miniature camera-on-a-chip combined with algorithmic decision-making to automatically operate a vehicle's high beams in order to optimise their usage according to surrounding traffic conditions. The system maximises forward lighting while eliminating the repetitive task of turning the high beams on and off manually.

SmartBeam is integrated into a Gentex auto-dimming mirror, which automatically darkens to eliminate glare from the headlamps of vehicles approaching from the rear.

Pricing for the all-new Audi A7 start at $59,250 (excluding $875 destination charge, taxes, title, options, and dealer charges) for the 3.0T quattro Tiptronic variant.

Standard features include 18-inch wheels with all-season tires, Xenon plus headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights, leather seating surfaces, power, heated front seats with driver lumbar support, automatic power tailgate, Audi drive select, SIRIUS satellite radio, Audi Music Interface, Bluetooth telephone and music player connection, Homelink, Keyless go, power sunroof, 3-zone automatic climate control, and automatic headlights with light/rain sensor.

“This brings to 14 the number of Audi models that offer the Gentex high-beam assist system,”
said Enoch Jen, senior vice president Gentex. “In addition to SmartBeam, Gentex also supplies the A7 with base feature interior and exterior auto-dimming mirrors.  We are proud to be Audi’s sole supplier for auto-dimming mirror technology.”
