New Audi A6 Delivers Efficiency Without Compromise

Audi's "progress through technology" philosophy has been taken over by its latest model, the A6 saloon, which has been entirely redesigned, benefiting from advanced lightweight construction techniques, engine efficiency measures, chassis developments and in-car technological innovations.

Audi ensured that weight would be kept to a minimum, through aluminum and composite steel construction, thus enabling the car to deliver an unprecedented dynamic performance, while maintaining fuel economy and a low level of tailpipe emissions. The overall weight of the body was reduced by around 15 percent, enabling the A6 2.0 TDI to tip the scales at a relatively modest 1,575kg.

The powerplants in the new Audi A6 range make use of advanced direct injection technology for the lowest fuel consumption possible, in combination with the start-stop system, the energy recovery system and the innovative thermal management concept. Thanks to the employment of important technologies from the brand’s modular efficiency platform, fuel consumption has dropped 19 percent compared to the previous model, while CO2 emissions are down to as little as 129g/km.

The decrease in fuel consumption enables the A6 to achieve an impressive 57.7 combined mpg (4.89 l/100 km) when equipped with the ultra-efficient 2.0-liter TDI unit, mated to the six-speed manual transmission. The A6 will be available with a wide range of drivetrains, with each choice including either a six-speed manual transmission or a CVT for front-wheel drive models or the new seven-speed S tronic dual-clutch transmission which is fitted on quattro versions.

In the near future the new Audi A6 will benefit from a hybrid powertrain which, combining a 2.0 litre TFSI petrol engine with an electric motor, will provide up to 45.6 mpg (6.2 l/100 km) as well as 245 horsepower available at the squeeze of a pedal.
