BMW, Mercedes and Audi are all fighting each other to decide who’s the world’s biggest luxury automaker. This has resulted in a clear focus being placed on smaller budget cars that achieve bigger sales volumes, like the BMW X1 and the more practical Mercedes A-Class.
However, none o the big three offer their small hatchbacks in America yet, mainly because US consumers just aren’t into this sort of car. Instead, compact sedans are being built to cater to their needs.
Rumors have been circulating that Audi will jump the gun and offer the five-door A3 Sportback. However, the company has denied these speculations, saying there are “discussions taking place, but nothing where it’s fixed and set in stone.”
The A3 is ever so slightly newer than its competitors. If they decide to sell it Stateside, it would come ahead of BMW and Mercedes but could take sales for the expected A3 sedan.
