Although it is not as legendary as it might have liked in the world of motorsport nowadays, Aston Martin did have its glory moments. The company’s most significant motorsport achievement was winning the 1959 Le Mans endurance race, a feat that would not have been possible without the DBR1 car.
This historic machine, cherished above all else in Gaydon, was the starting point of inspiration for a brand new car Aston announced for later this year. Called the V12 Speedster, the two-seater car will pay tribute to the DBR1, but will also be inspired by the CC100 Speedster centenary concept car shown back in 2013.

How close to both these cars the Speedster will be is anybody’s guess, as for now there’s only the above official teaser to go on. Yet, by placing this teaser close to a photo of the CC100 (depicted in the photo gallery above) we see quite a number of similarities, at least in the overall shape.

To be animated by the carmaker’s powerful 5.2-litre V12 workhorse and a ZF 8-speed automatic transmission, the V12 will generate 700 PS and 700 Nm of power.

Designed by Aston’s Q division, the Speedster will be produced from later this year in just 88 units, and will be made available worldwide. There’s no word on price, but Aston says it is already accepting orders and plans to roll off the manual assembly lines the first examples in the first quarter of 2021.

“The V12 Speedster we’re proud to confirm today once again showcases not only this great British brand’s ambition and ingenuity, but also celebrates our rich and unrivalled heritage,” said in a statement Aston Martin Lagonda CEO Andy Palmer.

“The 88 enthusiast drivers and collectors who secure the keys to these cars can be confident that in doing so, they are also securing an iconic new piece of Aston Martin history.”
