Earlier this month, we talked about the most recent development stage of 992 Porsche 911 GT3 prototypes, with more of the front end being revealed. And the Touring Package was obviously mentioned, it's just now that we can enjoy a batch of spyshots portraying this derivative.
The previous 991 incarnation of the Porsche 911 GT3 was a bit of an emotional rollercoaster: the 991.1 didn't just experience engine issues, but also saw the stick shift going away. Fortunately, Zuffenhausen didn't just come up with a new motor for the 991.2, but also listened to the opinion of gearheads across the world and brought back the six-speed manual alongside the uber-efficient PDK. As a bonus, the automaker introduced the Touring Package, which skipped the fixed-wing of the "standard" model and came in manual-only form for further differentiation.

Returning to the 992, the generation change has brought aero elements that are considerably more aggressive. However, it didn't take long before test vehicles without the now-massive fixed-wing started testing, so we have serious reasons to believe the Touring is here to stay.

Nevertheless, given the wide "mouth" of the normal 992 GT3, which reminds one of the 1973 Carrera RSR, as well as the generous vents at the top of the front apron, it will be interesting to see what designers have done to visually balance this at the posterior of the Touring.

While the GT3 has been seen testing with a swan neck wing and the Touring sports the active element of the Carrera, which can be fully retracted, the sides of the rear apron remain covered by cladding. However, we can still notice the heftier diffuser that's basically wrapped around the GT3-specific dual center exhaust.

As far as the contents of the engine compartment are concerned, the Touring should be identical to the standard GT3. The most likely path seems to involve Porsche engineers taking the Carrera twin-turbo 3.0L-based naturally aspirated 4.0L featured on the range-topping 718 models one step further.

However, the automaker could always further refine the 4.0L boxer animating the 991.2 Speedster swansong, which already features gasoline particulate filters that allow it to cope with the latest European emission standards.

Either way, you can expect up to 500 horses and the kind of atmospheric song that will get your heart racing even if you're only heading out to grab those shopping bags. Speaking of purchases, the new GT3 should land by the end of the year, coming to the U.S. as 2021 model.
