New 2.0l Diesel Engine Available for All Volvo Cars

Swedish carmaker Volvo announced today the five-cylinder 2.0l turbodiesel engine debuted in the new Volvo S60 is available on all Volvo Cars models. Additionally, five petrol cylinder engines have been upgraded to enhance fuel economy and low CO2 emissions.

"The new engines offer greater driving pleasure across the range. What is more, our strong drive to reduce carbon dioxide emissions means that fuel consumption has been cut as well," says Magnus Jonsson, senior vice president Product Development at Volvo Cars.

The 2.0l turbodiesel engine has been optimised for low fuel consumption and features a different piezoelectric fuel injector compared with the 2.4l diesel it is based on.

Used in the Volvo S80, V70, XC70 and XC60, the new unit, badged D3, develops 163 hp and 400 Nm of torque. Fuel consumption ranges from 5.3l/100 km to 5.9l/100 km. The engine can be paired with six-speed automatic transmission or six-speed manual gearbox.

As far as the Volvo C30, S40, V50 and C70 go, the engine is available in either a 177 hp, 400 Nm of torque configuration (badged D4), or a 150 hp and 350 Nm of torque variant (D3). The first model to get it is the C70, this spring, followed by the other models later in the year.

As for petrol engines, Volvo revised the 3.2l, six-cylinder, turbocharged T6 and the 3.2l naturally aspirated one. The former now produces 304 hp and no less than 440 Nm of torque, while the latter 243 hp and maximum torque 320 Nm.
