The Frankfurt Motor Show has brought important news for BMW fans, with the topics ranging from the i Hydrogen NEXT fuel cell concept to the more mundane Vantablack finish of the X6. In between the two, we find the BMW 4 Concept, which comes to challenge our expectations for the upcoming second-generation 4 Series.
You see, the spyshots of the 2021 BMW 4 Series have led us to believe that, as it has been the case with pretty much all two-doors based on the 3 Series to date, the coupe will only show limited styling differences compared to the sedan.
And with all the heavy camo covering the prototypes, it would be difficult to argue against such a conclusion.
However, the Concept 4, whose live pics you can notice above, came around with its super-sized kidney grilles and blew those expectations to pieces, especially since the grilles are paired with bulges in the hood that make for a brilliant integration.
In my book, the said integration and the sporty nature of the car mean the massive kidneys actually work on an aesthetic level, unlike in the case of the 7 Series and the X7, but the opinions are obviously split.
So, will the Bavarians introduced a similar front end for the production 4 Series? Well, the carmaker is probably analyzing (potential) customer reactions right now.
And the rendering in the social media post below shows what should happen if BMW decided to steer clear of those gynormous grilles, going for an approach similar to that on the 8 Series instead.
It's not like the grilles on this virtual proposal are small. it's just that they favor width over anything else and don't end up completely dominating the front end of the vehicle.
Regardless of the pathway the Germans choose, one thing is clear: the visual personality of the new BMW 4 Series will be the strongest in its blood line.
