New 2018 Opel Corsa Spied Hiding Its Upmarket Design Details

Opel plans to change Corsa history, giving the model an upmarket boost for its next generation - we've already seen GM's Euro-flavored arm adding a slight premium touch to its latest models and this trend will certainly reach the B-segment model discussed here.

Since the next Corsa is currently in its early testing phase, with the first spyshots having only shown up back in October, the heavy camo doesn't allow us to zoom in on the details of the subcompact.

And the spyshots we're bringing you today still see a seriously introvert approach being used. Even so, we can notice what appear to be the production headlights, which seem to mirror the sleek design featured by the light clusters of the new Astra.

Following the German premium brand triumvirate's example, Opel is working to bring the styling of its models closer together, so we expect the Corsa to resemble the Astra in multiple ways.

Nevertheless, given the dimensions of the car, the profile of the spied prototype doesn't seem to pack the sporty profile of its big brother, focusing on boosting cabin space instead.

Underneath the surface, the Corsa F - this is still a tentative moniker - is rumored to pack an all-new platform. So the unsurprising driving experience delivered by the current Opel Corsa, should be left behind. With the new platform expected to employ lightweight materials such as aluminum, both the handling and the comfort should be improved.

The engine line-up will be comprised of downsized units, with most, if not all, the three- and four-cylinder engines set to turn to turbocharging for superior efficiency. Factor in the recent real-world emission test debates and we should end up with an engine range that actually delivers a serious boost (no pun intended) in terms of avoiding trips to the gas station.

With advances being delivered on so many fronts, the Opel Corsa F sounds like a tempting proposal, but we'll have to wait for the car's 2018 launch to find out what it's really like.
