Ingolstadt engineers are working overtime to complete the development of the new 2018 Audi A5 Cabriolet. Then again, our spy shooters aren't exactly visiting Spain for holiday-related purposes, hence the set of pics below.
Wearing the B9 family code, the upcoming A5 Cabriolet was recently spotted performing hot weather testing in the country. And, despite the German automaker having already introduced the 2018 A5 Coupe, the spied prototype was still loaded with camo, headlights and taillights included.

Even with the psychedelic wrap and in the moderate trim we see here, this mid-range Audi looks elegant, with the canvas top obviously helping the open-top A5 in this department.

What about the tech goodies brought by the new model?

Going underneath the skin, we find the MLB Evo platform of the new A4. And since the architecture has helped the fixed-roof A5 shed some 130 lbs (60 kg) and deliver an increase in torsional rigidity, this should work wonders for the Cabrio.

Since the Cabriolet will mirror the engine range of the A5 Coupe, we'll remind you the S5 is now motivated by a turbocharged 349 hp 3.0-liter V6 TFSI, a 20-horse bump compared to its predecessor. When it comes to pump-related matters (for the entire line-up), Audi explains that, thanks to the refreshed powerplants and the diet mentioned above, the A5 is up to 22 percent more efficient. Curious about the... normal engine options? Here you go.

Those of you willing to let the wind run through their hair while inside a B9 Audi A5 Cabriolet will have to wait for this fall's Paris Motor Show, when the canvas-wearing Audi should make its debut. Which should mean the soft top model will land in US showrooms next spring. We hate to keep you waiting, though, so here's a set of A5 Sportback spyshots for you Ingolstadt fans out there.
