While Cadillac was busy developing a rival for the 4 Series Coupe, BMW reinvented itself with a new, more youthful car. This is it, the 2 Series Coupe, a spiritual successor to the 1M and a true BMW compact at heart.
For its debut on US soil, the 2 Series came in its 228i form, packing the same sort of engine you get in the Z4. You get a 2-liter engine with 240 horsepower (US rating). Not impressed? For about $33,000 you can step behind the wheel of your very own rear-wheel drive BMW sportscar and enjoy the perfect 50/50 weight distribution with the manual.
The 228i is the only 2 Series model available in the US that's not an M car. But we think it's got everything you'll ever need. 0 to 60 in 5.5 seconds, 17-inch wheels and the sort of sportscar interior the Nissan 370Z will never be able to match.
Imagine, if you will, that this car is just as powerful and probably a bit faster than an old M3. In 1995 when the E36 came to America, it boasted 240 hp and 0 to 60 mph in about six seconds. That will teach you to laugh at the 228i!
