Nelsinho Piquet Speaks Out

23-year-old Nelsinho Piquet admitted today that his position at Renault F1 is still not completely secured for the remainder of the 2009 season. Much was expected from the talented Brazilian by his team this season, but the young driver failed to deliver. Although it's a well-known fact that Renault wasn't able to develop a competitive car for this year's Formula One season, Nelsinho wasn't able to bring home a single point in 9 races.

With the German Grand Prix behind, tensions within the team seem to have diminished, but Piquet is still uncertain if he will finish the rest of the 2009 F1 season with Renault.

There was a bit of a mess at the last race, I knew there was a big chance for me to be here - there was just conflict, and contracts, and a conflict of egos between a few people. But, it ended up with everything working well”, said Piquet in a press preview for the Hungarian GP.

"The problem is that these days a contract in F1 doesn't mean much, and we have seen several cases already of drivers and teams breaking contracts, and it just stays that way. So, the only thing I can do is drive, do my best and leave my father to do his job and see what he can do”, added the Brazilian.

The 23-year-old F1 driver continued by saying he is confident in his upcoming races, now that he has an updated car like Alonso. “I always have to try and do my best, and now that I have a better chance now that I have the same car, and not only that – but it also looks like the car is quite quick. Then it is an easier chance to show something”.

We are in the top level of motorsport and drivers need to know how to deal with these pressures and that kind of thing. I would say dealing like Lewis was at the end of his first season, fighting for the championship, that must have been even harder than what I am going through”, concluded Nelsinho.
