Set to arrive in theaters in February 2014, the “Need for Speed” movie will feature a unique Shelby GT500 we’ve already introduced you to earlier this year. The musclecar sports a custom widebody kit, bespoke 22-inch, LED halo lamps and dual hood intakes, which make it the perfect hero car to be used in high-speed chases on public roads.
But before being featured on the big screen, the “Need for Speed” hero Mustang will be showcased at the Homestead-Miami Speedway this weekend, where it will pace the Ford EcoBoost 400, the final race of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season. The vehicle will be driven by Ramon Rodriguez, one of he film’s stars.
“When the opportunity to showcase the ‘Need for Speed’ Mustang at our marquee event came up a few months ago it was a no-brainer to make it the centerpiece of Ford Championship Weekend,” said Tim Duerr, Ford Racing motorsports marketing manager. “We have always tried to incorporate some of our latest products that make up Ford’s versatile car and truck lineup, and we feel the three vehicles we’re using this year continues that trend.”
In addition to the “Need for Speed” Mustang, Ford will be using the all-new F-150 Tremor to pace the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on November 15, and the Mustang GT500 for the NASCAR Nationwide Series Ford event on November 16.
