We’re tempted to say that, compared to the movies, real life is rather boring. This clip of a cop jumping on a moving truck and stopping it just in time isn’t up to the same level as the James Bond stunts, but it’s real men doing real things to protect real lives.
The semi was seen being driven recklessly on Highway 81, which prompted some drivers to call 911 and report it. The police officers who caught up with the rogue truck tried to make the driver stop using the regular methods - flashing lights, sounding sirens - but failed.

Among those responding to the call was Deputy Todd Volk. After talking with the other officers present, he learned that one other deputy drove right next to the truck and could see the driver had a blank stare on his face (you can hear one officer say “he’s passed out” right at the start of the clip). That spelled trouble, since it was obvious the driver wasn’t going to respond, and the truck was heading towards a high-traffic intersection.

Luckily enough, the truck somehow continued to drive straight on its lane until it reached Norfolk, where it began to slow down. Deputy Volk took advantage of the situation, jumped into his pickup truck and drove forward.

As he passed the semi, he could see the driver’s head had dropped, so he abandoned all hope that the situation could somehow resolve on itself. He drove well in front of the track, got out and waited for the truck to reach him. By that time, the speed of the runaway vehicle was about 20 mph (32 km/h, even though it looks slightly slower to us), so he grabbed the side mirror and climbed aboard.

His actions came just in time, as the truck was starting to slowly veer to the right where, if it didn’t stop in the banks of snow on the side of the road, it could’ve crashed into the buildings, cars, or even unaware pedestrians.

It turned out that the driver was suffering from diabetes and was having a seizure due to low blood sugar level.
