Defense contractor Navistar announced today it had received a new order for its vehicles from the US military, strengthening its position as one of the preferred suppliers on the different branches of the army.
The latest order, worth $123 million, comes from the US Marine Corps Systems Command and concerns the delivery of 175 International MaxxPro Dash vehicles with DXM independent suspension. Part of those vehicles will be Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles.
“We are honored to provide additional MaxxPro Dash vehicles so soon after receiving last month's award for Recovery vehicles,” said Archie Massicotte, president, Navistar Defense.
“This award is an element in a strategy that allows us to build our business around a revenue base of $1.5 to $2.0 billion. Another important element is our commitment to keeping warfighters safe.”
The new order received by Navistar is to be completed by the summer of next year. The vehicles to be used by the USMC use DXM suspension, a technology which allows them to have a turning radius of 54 inches and roughly 14.5 inches of wheel travel.
To cope with the harsh conflict zone conditions, the MRAPs have several upgraded components, including the windows and doors and the air-hydraulic system.
The new order for these vehicles is part of the larger, $752 million contract awarded by the military to Navistar last February. In all, when the contract is over, the defense contractor would have supplied 1,050 MRAP vehicles for use in conflict zones. According to Navistar, since 2007 it has been contracted to produce more than 8,000 MaxxPro MRAP units.
