National Geographic Reveals GT-R Documentary

What if you could walk behind closed factory doors and gain access to the very production room of the newest super car? What would you be able to see there and how much of it would it actually be worth turning into a documentary?

That's exactly the question National Geographic wanted to answer and that's why, some time ago, they approached Nissan Motors who, incidentally, were ready to start work on their greatest project to date – the GT-R. Some people would call that blind luck or perfect timing, but we'll settle for smart marketing.

Anyway, a documentary that has the National Geographic logo on it has a lot of promoting powers and so Nissan “kindly” accepted the deal and let the cameras gain access to its inner sanctum where the GT-R was taking shape.

The documentary takes you behind the scenes, into the design room, on the test track, in the engineering and manufacturing facilities, basically, allowing you to follow the car's path from concept from reality.

Mind you, this documentary should not be taken literally, as its basically a form of commercial propaganda but it's still interesting to watch, just to see the inner workings of a large company for the release of a product like this.

If you know where reality stops and fiction begins, it's probably safe for you, but if you take everything you see and hear on TV for granted, you'd better stay away because Nissan will have you thinking this car was even better than a Porsche.

If you're at work and don't have anything to do right now, you could even watch it here, it's about 47 minutes long and choked-full of Nissan footage, including shots of Carlos Ghosn, Nissan/Renault CEO that here has rock star/manga-hero status.

And speaking of Ghosn, there is a really funny passage in which you could see him struggling not to barf when he takes a ride in a GT-R round the track. That alone is worth the price of admission, in case there was any.
