NASCAR team co-owner Gene Haas has applied to join the Formula One series. Details have yet to be released, but if Haas Racing Development’s entry is accepted, the American team will begin its F1 adventure in either 2015 or 2016.
Gene Haas co-owns the Stewart-Haas Racing NASCAR team, which fielded three teams consisting of six Chevrolet SS racers in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. Haas also owns CNC machine manufacturer Haas Automotive and the Windshear wind tunnel in North Caroline.
“We respect the FIA’s evaluation process and will share more details in the coming weeks,” Haas said in a statement earlier today.
Last month, FIA announced it would accept applications for at least one more team that would join the series beginning with the 2015 season. Interested teams must be able to commit to Formula One from 2015 through 2020, the governing body said a month ago.
