NAIAS: Triac Electric Vehicle

One of the attendees of the “Electric Avenue” at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) in Detroit, the largely (yet unknown) manufacturer Green Vehicles, is displaying their Triac pure electric vehicle and announced the start of production for the three-wheeler.

The Triac will help reduce the number of polluting vehicles on the road while giving drivers the real pleasure of experiencing well-applied technology at an affordable price,” Mike Ryan, Green Vehicles’ president said.

Introduced in April 2008 as a prototype, the Triac had a highway speed of 80 mph and a range of 80 to 100+ miles, depending on how it is operated. For the 2010 model year, presented at NAIAS, the range has been extended by an extra 20 miles. The vehicle can be charged with any 110v or 220v standard outlet, with the complete charge taking at least six hours.

The Traic employs an advanced IT system, which integrates the battery management system (BMS), GPS, motor controller function and vehicle diagnostics. It can provide feedback on efficiency during charge, tracks energy storage and provides navigation information for the driver.

Feedback from early adopters was critical for really maximizing drivability, IT system usability, comfort, and performance under real-world driving conditions,” Ryan added.

The Triac will be available for purchase starting October 2010, for a price starting at $24,995. Green Vehicles plans to build 1,000 Triacs per year.
