According to Biermann, “N is a sub-brand and with N high-performance cars we work for both brands - so you have to be ready for N versions for Hyundai and Genesis. More than one. We have a nice roadmap for the next five years.

The ex-BMW M Vice President of Engineering played a crucial role in the development of the new luxury Genesis G90, launched at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

After this year’s launching of a new and improved version of the Genesis large sedan, called the G80, the South Korean carmaker plans a mid-size sedan and performance-focused G70 that, with its rear and all-wheel drive system, will be a direct rival for BMW’s 3 Series.

As Biermann stated, the G70 will be developed on an entirely new platform and will have different axle concepts. Without giving too many details, he promised that what Hyundai is cooking won’t disappoint in any regard.

For those of you who are expecting for the first N Performance model to be launched, you might want to know that you will have to wait a little longer because the Hyundai official confirmed that it is expected to hit the street no sooner than two years from now.

According to Motoring, the first model of this sub-brand is supposed to be a hot hatch based on the i30, of which Biermann said that “It is a car more focused on Europe, and then the next car will be focussed on the US, and so we take an easy start. We don’t go full blast on the first car but the philosophy, the jobs, how we approach a high-performance car, how we develop it, the thinking, it’s all full high-performance.

Hyundai is expected to launch the new i30 later this year.
