There isn't a dull day in Mercedes land these days. The German company has unveiled concept after concept this year, revived the Maybach brand, introduced smaller turbo engines and the amazing AMG GT, which is about as aye-catching as a Victoria's Secret model.
As if all that wasn't enough, the Daimler people seem to have discovered time travel or an inter-dimensional portals to Cybertron. From one of their test facilities, this interesting-looking machine emerged. Like the flying saucers of Area 51, they're trying to cover up the vehicle, but we're too smart to be fooled by a big tarp.
Underneath the camo is a new concept car which Daimler CEO Dr Dieter Zetsche will unveil at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show. It's expected to feature huge doors and a cabin where four passengers face each other. How is that even possible? That's because the car will be a preview of autonomous driving in the near future. And because there's no driver per say, all the things we normally associate with a car will be changed.
At the moment, details are scarce, but Zetsche is expected to deliver an address at the CES about "the latest advances in autonomous vehicle technology." Mercedes is committed to being the first company in the world to put a self-driving car on sale and has already built a very impressive prototype based on the S-Class.
Judging from the fact that this concept is moving about while it's being photographed, unlike most of its brothers and sister which are just for show, we expect Mercedes to actually give joyrides at the Consumer Electronics Show.
