Mysterious BMW M6 Competition Edition Slated for Frankfurt Debut

At the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show, BMW will be bringing an impressive arsenal to greet its fans with. Amongst them, you’ll find cars like the new 7 Series and the plug-in hybrids the Bavarians will have on offer from now on.

However, amongst these premieres we’ll also be finding a couple of surprises. For example, the Germans are planing to use this even to launch their new racer as well, the M6 GT3 being slated for a full reveal on the floor of the IAA 2015.

This will be the successor of the current Z4 GT3, a car that brought a number of victories and titles to BMW over the years, with a rather successful run, to be honest. The problem is, customers aren’t all that interested in roadsters anymore and the Z4 is slowly dying as a core model, rumors saying it’s about to be replaced altogether by a new model in less than two years time.

The M6 GT3 will be a drastic change in pace. Compared to the road-going model it will be losing over half a ton in weight while also adding on a complete roll cage and other parts needed to be FIA-compliant.

As for the M6 Competition Edition, little is known at the moment. All we could muster came from the BMW press release regarding their line-up at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2015.

“Besides the BMW M6 GT3, BMW M GmbH is also showcasing its latest range-topping model offering the ultimate in dynamic, road-going performance at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The new BMW M6 Competition Edition underlines its status as a yet more individual version of the high-performance coupe,” claims the text coming in from Munich.

On top of that, the car is also claimed to come with a choice of special exterior paint finishes and extra components made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer or CFRP for short. At the moment, the M6 comes with only the roof made of the lightweight, high-strength material so this would probably shave some more valuable kilos off the total.

Under the bonnet, we’ll be treated with the same 4.4-liter twin turbo V8, this time treated with the Competition Package that brings 600 HP and 700 Nm (516 lb-ft) of torque to the mix. This could be an attractive offer after all...
