This unbelievable crash occurred during the qualifying sessions at the Motocross of Nations in Ernee, France and had Max Anstie and Pascal Rauchenecker as protagonists.

The exact conditions of the crash are still being investigated, with an apparent engine stall being indicated as the most likely cause for Britain's Anstie slowing down.

Unfortunately, Austrian Rauchenecker had no idea about that, and was not expecting to run into anyone on the descending slope of the double jump. Rauchenecker's rear wheel landed violently on Anstie's head, also bashing him against the bike. The Brit, who was third at the time of the crash, was knocked out unconsciously and was ran off the track.

A vertebra is broken, but with no spinal injury

Max' team' manager Steve Dixon visited him at the hospital and said that things are way better than everybody feared, considering how violent the blow the English rider took to his head.

The rider's T3 vertebra is broken, but the fracture did not cause spinal injuries, the same source reports. Max also suffered a broken shoulder blade and was put into an upper body cast and will need two months of proper rest. The perspectives are quite good for a full recovery, doctors say, but only if he will not put any pressure on the back and allow the bone to heal slowly to full strength.

Max Anstie has since been airlifted to the UK, with the medical investigations clearing him of other injuries, among which brain trauma.

We noticed that Max had a GoPro camera on his helmet at the time of the accident and are waiting to see that footage released too. It's not exactly too often what we get to see POV footage when a bike lands on a rider's head. We wish Max a full and speedy recovery.
