MV Agusta Rumored to Work on All-New In-Line 4 Bike Generation, No More New Triples

During the official introduction of the Turismo Veloce 800 machine, MV Agusta CEO Giovanni Castiglioni revealed that this is the last of the motorcycles based on the existing three-cylinder platform. It looks like MV Agusta has a triple in each of the segments which seem lucrative, and has no plans to expand the family of the 3-cylinder models.

However, the even bigger news is that Schiranna is apparently focusing efforts on a new generation of four-cylinder bikes. This means that we might see a new F4 or F4-like bike from MV Agusta, with the most optimistic expectations being, of course, EICMA 2015 at Milan.

Are the new in-line four bikes in for World Superbike?

If MV Agusta will replace the F4, this means that the new machine will have to be homologated, if the house of Schiranna wants to keep racing in the World Superbike series. Homologation requirements, as far as numbers go, have become less compelling as Dorna wants to attract more factories into the series, but still, everything will have to be ready for 2016... in case the move will be that fast. The new 212 hp MV Agusta F4 RC has just started selling.

Most people are betting on a completely new F4 bike, possibly with certain derivatives to fill in other niches. The current F4, if with noted upgrades along its long history as a model, IS getting older. The liter-class model arrived in 2006, superseding the F4 750 bikes introduced in the late '90s.

Although the bike changed a lot underneath the fairing, the machines remained a bit conservative. Easily recognizable as a piece of finest Italian motorcycle tech, it looks like the MV Agusta F4 will be revolutionized, and hopefully the new bike will be a new concept and not an evolution from the current model.

Whether and how much AMG DNA will be present in the new four-cylinder MV Agusta is so far anyone's guess, but we're putting money on some serious racing technology infusion from the Germans.

As for possible new directions for MV Agusta, make sure you don't miss tomorrow's editorial.
