According to the California Department of Motor Vehicles, the Italian manufacturer MV Agusta is no longer licensed to sell motorcycles in the State of California.
Apparently, no other details have emerged for the California DMV, so the reason behind this interdiction remains a complete mystery so far. It looks like this ban affects the sales of new motorcycles, while the previously-owned ones may still change hands. While it’s obvious that 2014 model year bikes can no longer be sold by the MV Agusta dealers, more info is being searched for in relation to the sales of 2013 bikes still existing in the dealerships.

MV Agusta’s license lapse dates back to July 2013, according to A&R, and this might hint us to somebody not doing their homework in due time for a renewal. Before an official statement from either of the parts involved, we’re only speculating, but it’s rather hard to believe that something was THAT wrong with MV Agusta in California, so that the brand was induced on the ban list.

One of the biggest problems when it comes to motoring and selling vehicles in California is the compliance with the requirements of the CARB (California Air Resources Board), and we’ve seen similar bans enforced more than once.

While being unable to sell whole bikes in California is a problem for MV Agusta and its dealers, especially in this period of the year, the ban affecting the sales of spare parts will also have a negative impact on the customers, as well. According to A&R, MV Agusta is already working to fix the problem, but it could take months until all the papers are processed and business restored. Really sad news, especially as the first quarter of the year showed a 20% MV Agusta sales increase over the 2012 figures.

We’re still waiting for some details from the Italian headquarters of MV Agusta and we’ll let you know how things are as soon as info arrives.
