While 2020 is expected to be the final year for the Ford Mustang Shelby GT350, with this believed to be replaced by the just-around-the-corner Mach 1, this incarnation of the S550 pony continues to deliver tons and tons of thrills. In fact, we are now here to discuss a recent example of this, one that involves a race between the GT350 and a Lamborghini Gallardo.
We're looking at the first Superleggera incarnation of the Gallardo here, which landed back in 2007 and brought quite an improvement. To be more precise, the diet of the supercar, which relied heavily on carbon fiber, allowed this to shed 220 lbs (100 kilos), while its 5.0-liter V10 motor delivered an extra ten ponies, for a total of 530 PS (523 hp).

As for the Mustang Shelby GT350 that duked it out with the Sant'Agata Bolognese machine, this is a 2017 model, not that the year influences its spec. As such, the muscle car rocks a 5.2-liter V8 delivering 533 PS (526 hp). So while the Italian machine we have here comes with an e-gear automated manual (think: single-clutch six-speed), this Blue Oval toy packs a stick shift, also featuring six forward ratios.

According to the official scale footprint figures of the two, the exotic is some 700 lbs (315 kg) lighter than the muscle car. However, it's worth noting that the Gallardo Superleggera had somebody riding shotgun during the racing action, while the Shelby GT350 driver was alone in the vehicle.

We also have to mention that the two raced from a roll, so the Gallardo couldn't use its AWD asset. Yes, this velocity brawl, which saw the two duking it out on multiple occasions, took place on the street. However, as the Mustang wielder also points out in the video below, more and more local tracks are reopening their gates, so please head over to the prepped surface when you feel it's time for battle.

PS: You can skip to the 6:05 point of the clip for the sprinting shenanigan.
