Mustang Shelby GT350 Drag Races Mercedes CLK55 AMG: Unfair Atmospheric V8 Fight

We're dealing with a Ford Mustang Shelby GT350 that goes up against... a Mercedes-Benz CLK55 AMG. A Convertible CLK55 AMG, that is. Nevertheless, the 'Stang's fixed roof doesn't even come close to the factor that can be described as the most important one for upsetting the balance here.

We're obviously talking about the massive engineering difference that sets the two cars apart, owed to the fact that the GT350 we have here was born about fifteen years after the Merc. And that's something not even the mighty Affalterbach engineers can deal with.

While the flat-plane crank Voodoo of the pony delivers 526 hp from its 5.2-liter displacement, the AMG's 5.4-liter V8 produces 349 horses (if the model in the video is indeed the facelifted first-generation model it appears to be).

The two machines raced as part of an event that usually sees competitors going for half-mile runs using a standing start and measuring the trap speed. However, given the hefty difference mentioned above, the AMG got a serious head start, so the game saw the Mustang trying to catch up and maybe beat the open-top Merc.

However, the event allowed the cars to duke it out on an empty airfield, so all the drivers had to worry about was how to make the most out of their rides.
