People passing out behind the wheel can lead to serious consequences, as yours truly found out some years ago when my mother had a crash. Nevertheless, the driver of the Mustang in the clip below seems to be going through a magical experience, even though this seems more like Houdini’s magic to me.
I may be wrong here, but the all the details of the action seem to fit in a tad too well, from start to finish.
Some say it takes a magician to spot Houdini’s trickery. Well, just like this guy isn’t Houdini, I’m not a magician. However, I’ve played with enough cars on fields to be suspicious about various aspects of the Mustang’s adventures. I’m talking about stuff like the hefty amount of movement required by the drift.
The Youtube account that uploaded the clip does appear to have tried to hit internet celebrity on three different occasions over the past five months, but with no success. The comments? Disabled. The reasons behind the loss of consciousness? “Previously unknown medical condition caused a crash on 4/2/2015."
If this is indeed staged, I have to admit, the guy has pulled a pretty nice stunt. I’m not sure about the legal, property-damage implications though.
- The guy turns on the cruise control right before he purportedly passes out.
- This leads to his fourth-gen Mustang veering off the road and onto a field, but it all happens nicely behind a semi-trailer that was entering the road ahead.
- The man’s head covers the camera view at first, but then the wobbling moves his body about, and we get a clear view. Despite this, the lower area of the image doesn’t reach the lower end of the steering wheel, so his left hand could easily give the car some steering impulses.
- When plowing through the field, the ‘Stang barely avoids serious obstacles, with the intensity of its small crashes increasing, at goes from barb wire to a small pole.
