Must-Have Motorcycle Gadgets

A motorcycle is far from being just a means of transportation, but it’s a pride and passion and sometimes even more. Simply put, it becomes a way of life. However, believe it or not, there are some things that could enhance your two-wheel experience. Some would say there are just whims, others just can’t imagine riding without them. The following gadgets have the purpose of making your journeys more comfortable an stress-free, and why not, even bring a little bit of fun with them. The more relaxed a rider is, the more attention he/she pays to the road and to the other traffic participants. Motorcycle GPS
Probably the most common device we find installed on a motorcycle is the GPS system. It allows
you to plan your trips at home, download routes, find points of interest (such as petrol stations, restaurants, service stations, and hotels) and why not, discover new destinations. All without having the fear of getting lost or taking the wrong turn. However, if this does occur, the GPS system can guide you back on the right track.

But what are the things that you should take into consideration when purchasing a GPS unit? First of all, you have to make sure you can operate the buttons with the gloves on. The display has to be easy to read in direct sunlight and that it has a backlight for nighttime use. Then, you might also want a unit that is waterproof, easy to mount and has a longer battery life... just in case.

Motorcycle Radar Detector

Now, this might be a tricky one. Standard radar detectors were not built for motorcycles and most of these devices
use audio to inform the driver. This is why they are considered as inappropriate for bikers because they cannot hear them. Nowadays, however, there are cordless detectors with an earphone jack so that the rider can hear alerts. Moreover, just like with the GPS system, when purchasing a radar detector you should look for one that is waterproof and easy to mount. Other important aspects are band detection and distance of detection. And we might even add the capability of sending a jamming signal... but we won’t.

Intercom Systems

Without a device like this, motorcycle riding is a somewhat solitary experience. Even when you ride with a passenger
or with a fellow biker. Just as you might have guessed, there are some criteria to have in mind when choosing one. For a better riding experience, we recommend a wireless unit to make it easier to use. Furthermore, an intercom system should be waterproof, have noise reduction capabilities and even a voice activation feature. And since you decided to invest in such a device, it would also be nice to be able to integrate it with your cell phone, so that you can talk while you ride.

Helmet Camera

This is when the fun part comes. Having a helmet camera could help you record any actions that you
might want to share with your friends and why not, to the world, considering all the social networks out there. It’s like catching your baby’s first steps on camera. Make sure that you have batteries, as you don’t want to lose any of the fun. Also, you should also have a recording device and a way to store the equipment safely. Congratulations! Now you have all you need to support your stories with a clear footage.

The problems with all these gadgets, however, might appear if you get carried away with all the features these devices have. That is why it is recommended that you play with them enough before mounting them on the motorcycle.
