Musk Announces the Third Model 3 Reveal Is "Three to Four Months" Away

Considering everything the company has put in it, the future of Tesla Motors pretty much hangs on the success of the upcoming Model 3. Initial reactions were very positive, so the nervousness is at a low to maybe moderate level.

However, despite the incredible buzz and the 400,000-odd registrations for the new car, you could understand if the higher hierarchy at Tesla wasn't completely relaxed on the subject. After all, it's a make or break moment for the entire business, and no matter how confident you are, there's always a small chance that it'll be latter and not the former.

Elon Musk, however, seems to be very untroubled. After the shareholders had voted for the acquisition of SolarCity, the company's CEO took part in a question-and-answer session with the audience. Of course, most of the inquiries revolved around the merger, but some people were more interested in the wheeled products.

A member of the audience asked something about the Model 3, presumably what's the status of the vehicle and when should we expect to see the promised "third reveal." Given the setting, you would expect Musk to snub questions like that, and that's exactly what he did at first.

However, he didn't move on without providing some information, and so we now know that the next big reveal on the company's first mass-market product will come "three or four months from now." If Tesla sticks to the schedule, that will place it almost exactly one year after the initial presentation that took place on the final day of March 2016.

Since then, Tesla has been quite active and recently introduced the new self-driving hardware suite that will equip all future cars (Model 3 included), as well as the solar roof option which, coupled with the Powerwall 2 energy storage device, can make a household energy-independent.

The nature of this third reveal is still speculatory, but we'd be willing to bet it will focus on the car's interior. During the first event, Musk said it is still work in progress, and considering it came with a barren dashboard that only featured a large, horizontally-oriented touchscreen, a lot of people assumed the car would get a head-up display. Whether that is it, remains to be seen. You can also keep your fingers crossed for some sort of augmented reality, since back in March, Musk described the Model 3 controls to be "spaceship-like."

You can watch the whole Q&A session below, or you can skip to around the 11:15 mark for the Model 3 question.
