Munchi's Team Confirm 2009 WRC Programme

Munchi's Ford World Rally Team announced it will return to the World Rally Championship as soon as Rally Cyprus, scheduled March 13th through 15th. The announcement was made via the WRC website, with the official statement from the team adding that Munchi's will also going to contest in the 2009 Manufacturers' race.

That means the team will contest in at least 8 championship rounds this season, as they will enter the series with a single-car effort (according to the new FIA rule book). Munchi's will therefore become the 5th team to register as a 2009 manufacturer, following Citroen Sport, Ford World Rally Team, Citroen Junior Team and Stobart Ford.

Main driver for this year's campaign will be the same Federico Villagra, the Argentine who drove the Ford Focus WRC for Munchi's last season. In addition to Villagra's WRC program with Munchi's, as in 2008, the team may also run a 2nd car during some of the events they chose to compete in. The team is yet to issue a complete list of events which they intend to be part of in 2009.

Villagra will be co-driven by fellow Argentine Jorge Perez Companc and will again drive a Ford Focus RS WRC set up by Stobart M-Sport. This will be the team's 3rd consecutive year in the series. Last season, Villagra scored a personal best 6th place in Argentina and Jordan. However, Munchi's still couldn't avoid the last place in the Manufacturers' standings, behind newcomers Suzuki World Rally Team.

Another team expected to make the manufacturers' list this year is Adapta Subaru. The team has until March 1st to register for the 2009 World Championship for Manufacturers.
