Drones have been increasing in popularity for years, as various people and organizations have found this technology to be at times essential for their task at hand. From simple toys, they have evolved into machines being indispensable for fighting wars, saving lives, or simply entertaining their owners.
The number of commercially available drones has increased constantly, and so did their capabilities, but drones keep evolving, as there’s never a shortage in demand.

One of the biggest players on this market, DJI, announced this week the introduction of the Matrice 300 RTK, the company’s new flagship drone, now combined with the Zenmuse H20 Series wide angle camera.

Matrice, launched in 2015, has been designed from the get-go as an industrial applications drone. The new interpretation, 300 RTK, brings capabilities to a whole new level.

The drone has a flight time of up to 55 minutes, about double that of the average industrial drone. The transmission range is of up to 15 km (9 miles), and it can fly as high as 7 km (4 miles) in temperatures ranging from minus 20 to plus 50 degree Celsius (-4 to 122 degrees Fahrenheit). It is also capable of carrying up to three payloads weighing as much as 2.7 kg (6 pounds).

The done is fitted with the new Zenmuse H20 Series wide angle camera that does much more than just relaying images back to the operator. Aside for the wide angle camera itself, the system is also equipped with a thermal camera, and a laser range finder to better navigate its surroundings and serve its masters.

For the first time, one of DJI’s drones is equipped with dual vision on all six sides of the aircraft, allowing what the company calls unprecedented situational awareness.

DJI’s new Matrice drone can be used in a wide range of fields, from emergency services to powerline inspection.
