Mulsanne-based Bentley Azure Replacement Coming

Bentley is in the middle of a complex line-up replacement, as the exclusive automotive producer is planing to offer fresh products in order to get a bigger slice of the market share cake.

The company’s latest development plans include the introduction of a model that will take over the Azure Convertible. The new luxury topless vehicle will be based on the Mulsanne sedan, as Insideline reports.

The convertible is expected to hit the market next summer and will share its body design, powerplant and gearbox with the Mulsanne: upside - we get the new six and three quarters V8, downside - the canvas roof won’t be pleased with the fact that it has to share the car with the Mulsanne’s controversial front end design.

The new twin turbocharged engine uses Bentley’s “oldie but goldie” engine block and comes with new pistons, connecting rods and forged crankshaft. According to the automaker, the unit features a total of 300 new of heavily modified parts. Being a modern engine, the powerplant features two fuel-efficiency systems: variable displacement and cam phasing. This allows it to return a 15 percent improved fuel consumption figure.

But let’s get to the information that really matters: the six and three quarters V8 elegantly and at the same time brutally offers 505 hp and 1020 Nm of torque, with the latter being developed starting from 1,750 rpm. The power and torque waves push the Mulsanne from naught to naughty (62 mph) in 5.1 seconds, so we expect the Azure to post a similar thrill sprint time.
