Mugen used to make the best version of the Civic Type R around. Unfortunately, the Japanese tuner has downgraded to some really strange bolt-ons for the FK8 generation of the hot hatch.
Some of you may remember the strange carbon fiber concept called RC200GT they released last year. But even that was better than what we have here. The parts are going on sale in Japan this month, and because they were previewed on a pre-production model, we can show you what the finished thing looks like in videos as well.

We'll start with the "carbon fiber front grille garnish," which you have to screw into your existing bumper and costs the equivalent of $800. Alternatively, you can have it no-carbon for half the price.

Next up, the new chin spoiler, which bolts onto the existing bumper and adds a bit of character, yours for $350. Matching side skirts and a rear diffuser that kind of looks like the Lambo Centenario will set you back $1,000.

Things only get weirder from there on out, as the carbon fiber mirror caps and side window visors add to the cost. Mugen's 20-inch wheels are the same size as Honda, but much uglier and priced from $1,500. Do you still have money left over? You can spend a few hundred dollars on some custom floor mats, including for the trunk. Perhaps the only innovative piece they offer is the taillight replacement for $800. It's not going to make the car any prettier, but at least it's original.

Interior revisions are limited to a bit carbon-fiber, which makes its way on to the door and dashboard, while the shift knob is wrapped in bright red leather. Sadly, the company that used to tone the hell out of your VTEC four-banger leaves the current turbo where it always was, at 320 HP and 400 Nm of torque. In any case, here's their official shop if you see anything you like.
