We wouldn't go so far and say that many of you probably watched the MTV show "Skins" on Monday night but, if you did, you probably saw a bunch of commercials advertising Chevrolet's all-new Volt. Some were surprised to see the ad aired during the show, while others were really outraged, shouting that companies such as General Motors should not invest in a TV programme that's all about teenage sexual content.
But what it actually happened was that MTV accidentally aired the two ads for the new Chevrolet Volt, the US-based car manufacturer said according to FoxNews. General Motors never intended to show the two commercials during the teen show, while other companies, such as Taco Bell, also decided to stop showing ads during it.
“We received a lot of emails,” GM manager of communications Ryndee Carney tells FOX411. “So then we began to investigate because we, of course, never intended to advertise on the show in the first place. We talked to MTV and they rectified the situation.”
The Parents Television Council, who is already trying to stop the show from being aired in the US because it promotes “foul language, illegal drug use, illegal activity as well as thoroughly pervasive sexual content," was pleased with GM's decision and called for other companies to do the same.
“PTC also thanks General Motors for swiftly responding to PTC members’ concerns about Chevy Volt advertisements," PTC president Tim Winter said in a statement released to FOX411. “GM told PTC that ‘Skins’ was on its ‘do not buy’ list on MTV, and that MTV admitted placing the Chevy commercial on ‘Skins’ in error. GM also stated that MTV had apologized for its error.”
