MTM-Tuned Porsche 718 Boxster S Review Reveals 390 HP and Meaty Exhaust Sound

We're here to show you German tuner MTM's first efforts for the Porsche 718 Boxster S, but we'll start this aftermarket tale with some background.

Back in the day when the Porsche Boxster was still in its early years, the German roadster used to embody the overly fun, yet slow type of machine. Things have evolved over the years and, with the turbo flat-four switch done by the new 718-labeled generation, Zuffenhausen has ensured Boxster drivers no longer feel threatened by hot hatch guys willing to drag race them.

Heck, the 718 Boxster S, which packs 350 hp and 309 lb-ft (420 Nm) of twist, can cover the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds. And, if the driver insists on mashing the throttle, the mid-engined sportscar will hit a maximum velocity of 178 mph.

Throw in some turns and the performance gets even more impressive - the new Boxster S can lap the Nurburgring in 7:42, which makes it as fast as a 997-generation 911 GT3.

Now that's fast. But is it enough? Well, if you ask the tuners and their clientele, you'll get a big fat "no" as an answer. So let's return to the Motoren Technik Mayer part of the job and see what the German specialist can do for the current Boxster range-topper.

The company is still working on its 718 Boxster packages, but, for now, they've gifted a Boxster S with a custom exhaust and a piggyback ECU remap box. And we've got a Winding Road-supplied review of this Zuffenhausen machine for you.

The video at the bottom of the page shows the Porscha being driven inside and outside the city, while also visiting the dyno. At the moment, the said modification allow the 2.5-liter flat-six occupying the middle section of the Boxster S to jump to 390 hp and 324 lb-ft (440 Nm).

And yet MTM will probably take the Boxster past the 400 hp border, so we'll keep a close eye on the tuner's work.
